The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation prioritizes organizations that reflect its core values:

Note: Proposals should highlight how the project or work supports the Foundation’s mission to harness education’s transformative power to strengthen communities, empower individuals overcoming adversity, preserve the heritage of Texas and the United States, and help every person realize their full potential.
- Organizations submitting proposals should limit their request to no more than one in any twelve month period.
- Grants are made only to qualified non-profit organizations. The Foundation does not make grants to individuals.
- Lobbying of individual directors by grant applicants may result in adverse consideration of grant application.
- Preference will be given to grant requests from eligible organizations in the Houston area or within the State of Texas.

How do I apply?
To apply for a grant, please use the link below to access the online application. The Foundation accepts proposals on a rolling basis, and only one proposal per grantee per year is accepted.

What is the process once the application is submitted?
Once a proposal is submitted, it undergoes a thorough evaluation process. This includes a financial assessment, an evaluation of its potential impact, and collaborative discussions. Site visits and meetings with grantees are scheduled based on availability. The Board reviews grant proposals on a quarterly basis throughout the year.
How will I be notified of a decision?
Applicants should receive an email confirmation of receipt of the proposal. All further status changes will be communicated by email and via status updates on the Online Application “Dashboard,” visible by logging in to an applicant’s account.
What are the deadlines for proposals?
There are no deadlines. Proposals are accepted year-round through the Herzstein Foundation’s Online Application.
Grant Reports
Herzstein Foundation grantees must furnish brief written reports at the end of their grant periods.
Please use the appropriate form below to create your report and e-mail it to mail@herzsteinfoundation.org. Note that there is a special version if your organization received funds for a capital campaign. If your organization’s funds benefited an endowment, refer to Exhibit A in your grant agreement. Please also feel free to send us links to any photos, articles, YouTube videos, or audio clips demonstrating the work achieved.
